Obama's speech, if you got hit in the head with a rock and were the only one to miss it, was beautiful, stirring, wonderful, etc. Everyone was crying and screaming and super happy, and I wish I could have been that enthusiastic too. It's thrilling that he's president, but I feel like so many people are completely enamored with him with no real idea why. It's like they think he's Jesus and Santa wrapped up in one.

Obviously his diversity and patience let basically everyone relate to him, but one of my favorite aspects of Obama is how he has seemed thus far to deflect even the most seductive praises. People cheer and he just grins dismissively, or makes them cry with a speech. But he is never affected by this hysteria, at least on the surface. If it's a ruse, he's damn good at it.

He didn't even get excited during his entrance, being the only one besides Bush not to grin as he walked through the Capitol. It's like he sees a clear light in the future, and the present popularity and crowds are just murk to wade through.

I don't know. Just please do well. And don't let pride anywhere near you.

one if you watch real close he was working hard to stifle a smile. Two he probably just knows that he will not be able to be all things to all people and that once he does something controversial the hysteria will end. Three after 8 years of Bush we reeeaaally need his speeches simply to raise the moral lol.
